The Story of This Work
Peonies in full bloom surround the poised peacock, bringing together two enduring motifs in Chinese decorative art. The peony has long been associated with prosperity, abundance and flourishing beauty, while the peacock evokes grace, dignity and splendour. Together, they create a richly layered composition designed to reward close viewing and bring a confident artistic presence to an interior.
From the Atelier
Hand-painted in Jingdezhen using the famille rose decorative tradition. The composition is built through carefully controlled brushwork and layered enamel colour, allowing the plumage, petals and foliage to retain depth and delicacy. The painted decoration is then fired to develop its finished colour, luminosity and enduring surface.
